Things you need to consider before you buy a SUV or MUV

Big, huge cars huh? Who doesn’t like them. I mean I absolutely love them!
Whether you are a family man who wants to take his family on a road trip OR a guy who has many friends and wants to go on an adventure, big cars are always good! You can always haul your people and luggage, camping stuff etc. So yes, we are talking about SUVs and MUVs today. Here are the things which you should consider before buying SUV or MUV and which one you should go for!

Introduction-

SUV

SUV stands for Sports Utility Vehicle and as the name suggests, it is more kind of sporty and has high ground clearance. This gives them superior off-road capability.

MUV

MUV stands for Multi Utility Vehicle and it is good for multiple purposes. They allow conversions between multiple combinations of passenger and luggage capacity.

Factors you should consider –

1. Off-road travels

-Yes, this is the main factor to consider, whether you REALLY need the off-road capability! This alone will help you take decision in most cases.
SUVs stand out from other cars because of its high off-roading capability only. I can’t emphasize it more. Have you seen those commercials where the SUV crosses a small river, climbs a little slopy terrain? Yes, this is what they are really designed for. If you are really always up for an adventure with your friends and family, go for it.

-MUVs on the other hand don’t have that off-road capability. Alike SUVs, they have high passenger and luggage capacity and are designed keeping normal roads & highways in mind. MUVs offer same amount of comfortability which a sedan would offer on roads having potholes. They do have have ground clearances more than sedans but they are not advisable in terrains.

2. Drive type

-SUVs are equipped with 4WD or AWD (4 Wheel Drive OR All Wheel Drive) systems. These drivetrains help SUVs to get much traction and control over terrains and grip in slippery conditions. Such systems make these types of car heavy.

-MUVs on the other hand have RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) systems in which power from engine is only transmitted to the rear wheels. This is the most common type of drive systems and used in almost every modern sedans and hatchbacks.

3. Mileage

-SUVs have big & powerful engines ! That’s quite reasonable since the drive system, multiple passengers and luggage make it heavy.
Also they need higher torque to climb terrains. Higher torque engines consume more fuel. Thus it makes SUVs slightly less fuel efficient !

-MUVs are more of sedan type vehicles which are designed to carry extra load and people & not for climbing hills and terrains. This makes MUVs slightly more efficient than SUVs. Not much, slightly more.

4. Price

-What makes SUVs so sporty and powerful – Complex drive systems, huge engine, high gripping tires and better suspensions ! Sounds cool, right? Yea, the cooler it sounds, the costlier it gets. This is what makes a SUV expensive.

-While MUVs are much cheaper than SUVs and only costs a little more than a sedan.

Conclusion –

If your trips are going to be more frequent to/through rural areas OR you’re more of a who always takes his ride for an adventure, I recommend you getting yourself a SUV.

You better get a MUV. Also you would save tons of money by buying MUV instead of SUV!
